BIO: Maureen began her cello studies with Sister Marcella Steffes at Viterbo University's Preparatory School for the Arts in La Crosse. During high school, she began studying with Peter Howard of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra in the Twin Cities. Maureen also attended Bowdoin International Music Festival, a renowned six-week summer music study program at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. Maureen began playing with the La Crosse Youth Symphony Orchestra already in fourth grade. She also |
played in the Minnesota Youth Symphony Orchestra in the Twin Cities, where she was one of eight finalists in a recent concerto contest. She is a past member of the Wisconsin All-State Honors Orchestra, has played with the Symphony Orchestra of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, and was a member of Busya Lugovier's string quartet at Viterbo University. During her senior year in high school, she also played in the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra. Maureen of course also belonged to the Central High |
School Orchestra. She is also a vocalist and sung in the Central High School Robed Choir. She has been an outstanding soloist, winning Grand Prize in the StringWorks String Competition in 2002 and participating in Solo & Ensemble competitions at both the district and state levels. Maureen is the daughter of Terence Kelly, a voice teacher at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, and Pamela Kelly, pianist for the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra. |
